Cefn Druids - 3G artificial pitch

Installation of 3G Artificial Pitch

Cefn Druids AFC wanted to create a new 3G pitch in order to provide the club with infrastructure to allow teams to train on the pitch throughout the week, thus working towards improving player development.

The team were required to work alongside a consultant on this project – Jonathan Smith, Geoturf consulting. The job involved excavating the existing natural pitch to existing drainage system with new drains having to be installed. It also required the team to strip off the top soil and stock pile at the end of the pitch, grade sub soil to level with a 300mm fall back and 50ml blinding layer of low fines stone dust, install main drain and silt traps then install lateral drains to main drain. The job also involved using the box grader to achieve 3mm tolerance, and roll. Laying 15mm shock pads and fully install 60mm carpet including sand and rubber. This project was partly funded by The Football Association Wales.

The opportunity for the community and other clubs to use to the facility has been increased by the new 3G pitch. Cefn Druids AFC will also benefit from increased use of the pitch which will provide further revenue and security for the financial stability of the club.
