Inscapes has achieved the prestigious honour of receiving a BALI National Landscape Award for Regeneration Scheme – Under £500K, for our wetland enhancement project at Taf Bargoed

The annual BALI Awards are the largest landscaping awards in Europe.

The National Landscape Awards offers a distinguished platform for industry professionals to spotlight and enhance their businesses, celebrating noteworthy achievements within and beyond the industry.

Inscapes and Landcraft are proud to have delivered a transformative wetland enhancement project at Taf Bargoed Community Park for Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council which has been designed to increase biodiversity, achieve biodiversity net gain, improve water management, and enhance access for the local community. This environmentally focused scheme aimed to restore the site's ecological function while creating a more resilient and engaging natural space for public use. A fundamental part of the project was to retain existing species and vegetation so the retention of as much of the existing soil/vegetation which had naturalised on the area was crucial.

A wide range of specialist works were carried out. These included the construction of a new ‘cast in-situ’ concrete weir wall, the installation of gabion mattress and drystone-faced gabion retaining walls along with the formation of three lined attenuation ponds to manage water levels effectively. Dry stone feature walls have been built to guide users into and through the area and new footpaths and access routes created to encourage greater community interaction with the site, while bespoke steel framed decks clad with timber
were installed to provide both practical and visual enhancements to the landscape.

Additional works included the construction of stone channels to support water flow and erosion control, as well as a comprehensive planting scheme, fencing, and seating areas to improve the overall experience for visitors and wildlife alike.

This project reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable landscape and infrastructure solutions that balance ecological responsibility, practical functionality, and long-term community value.

Judges comments:

“This was an exceptional scheme for regeneration and it was thought appropriate to recategorise the project from purely biodiversity to regeneration due to the early stages that the project. The collaboration of the contractor and client was second to none and the dedication of the client officers/contract managers was a credit to the scheme that provided flood relief for local housing whilst forming a wildlife and nature reserve entrance for the extended parkland area - amazing dedication and devotion to duty to  provide local habitats for local residents!! ”

We are grateful for the after sales service provided and much appreciate the valuable 'Maintenance Guide' - Proof that it's always worth dealing with and established company with a good track record such as Inscapes."
