Islwyn High School
MUGA Construction
Inscapes were contracted by Mcavoy Group to construct a new MUGA at Islwyn High School. The MUGA works included the reduction of existing site levels to prepare the ground for the installation of the new playing surface and surrounding landscape. Once excavated and graded, the foundation was formed using a subbase layer, followed by the installation of a geogrid reinforcement layer to enhance structural stability. The playing surface was constructed with tarmac designed to withstand frequent use and varying weather conditions.
To define and retain the MUGA surface, edging kerbs were installed around the perimeter, followed by the erection of a 4500mm high double wire mesh fencing system with posts securely set in concrete. Upon completion of the surface and enclosure, specialist sports line markings were applied to accommodate multiple sports activities including football, netball and basketball.
In addition to the MUGA construction, surrounding site improvement works were carried out to enhance drainage, landscaping, and the overall appearance of the area. These works included further excavations to reduce site levels, the construction of a detention basin to assist with stormwater management, and the excavation of tree pits followed by tree planting, contributing to the environmental quality of the site.
